We’re engaged! And we could not be happier!!
It’s official — Jack and I will be tying the knot! With that being said, we’ve got a freakin’ wedding to plan! After announcing our engagement, we got tons of the predictable questions: “How did he ask? Did you have any idea? When is the wedding?” and so on. To help answer all of those questions, I figured I would start from the very beginning and break it all down. Keep reading below!
How We Met: Our love story started 4 years ago when we were both home for summer in Palos Verdes, CA. Although we are from the same home town and attended high school together, we were never really friends throughout that time. Certain situations seemed to naturally throw us together – from Jack playing basketball, to me rooting for him on the cheer team, to us running into each other at UCLA football games (a school neither of us went to), to eventually us running into each other one night out at the bars with friends. While he went to college in Miami, FL, I stayed in LA and attended college here. It was the ONE summer night I borrowed a fake ID to go to the bars, and it was the same night that Jack and I ultimately “met”. From that night on, we pretty much started dating immediately! For two years we did long distance. We both would take whatever jobs we could get just to be able to afford plane tickets back and forth. After graduation, Jack moved back home to LA to attend Law School and for us to finally be dating in the same city. Two years after that, we now live together, just put a deposit down for a puppy, and are engaged!
How He Asked: This night was the most unexpected night, ever! It was right before the Super Bowl, and we were both at home “adulting” since the next day would be spent watching football. After finishing up our errands and tasks around the house, we were about to netflix & chill and call it a night. Jack called me over to our office where he was standing in the doorway with one hand hidden. Me, being impatient AF, couldn’t stop talking about what movies Netflix had just added for the month of February and what I wanted to watch. I noticed that Jack was getting emotional and shaky, and I immediately thought something was wrong! After asking a million questions about whether something happened, he then gave me a speech about quite the opposite. He told me how happy he was that we found each other, and that I was his best friend, partner in crime, love of his life, and other half all in one. He continued to say that the only thing he would change about our relationship was the fact that he had to call me his girlfriend, when in reality, I meant so much more to him. He got down on one knee in that moment, and removed his hand from behind his back, and asked me to be his wife!
Did I Have Any Idea?!: Not at all. Standing there with my ugg boots, sweatpants, oversized t-shirt, and messy bun on my head, I was so surprised in the best way possible! That entire week, Jack acted a little suspicious. He began asking me what type of ring I wanted, what my ring size I was, how old I wanted to be when we got married, etc. It was something we had always talked about, but I had no idea that while he was asking me all of those questions, he already had the ring and a whole plan in mind!
Did Everything Go According To Plan?: Nope. Not even a little bit. The night that Jack proposed was completely spontaneous. We had a Valentine’s Day trip planned to San Francisco in 2 weeks, and that was where he was originally planning to ask. He reached out to one of my college girlfriends and a photographer, and was going to do the whole surprise engagement thing. He ended up changing his mind and decided intimate was best, and I agree!! It was ours to keep and we got to celebrate together first without having the whole world know before we got to enjoy it together.
Now, Let’s Plan a Wedding!: It has been about 4 months that I Jack and I have been engaged and we have just begun wedding planning. We’ve picked out our venue and a wedding planner, and we are about to host our engagement party in a few weeks. Many more details to come, but we are so excited to be officially tying the knot!
